Ready to Schedule Service?
Every tractor trailer or semi relies on one small piece of equipment for its connection. The king pin is the pivot point between the two units. It receives a great deal of wear and tear, making repair or replacement inevitable at some point.
Failure of the king pin means that the steering system will not work properly, and improperly working steering systems can be dangerous. To avoid accidents arising from turning problems, make sure your truck’s king pin is regularly inspected and serviced. King pins and tie rods can wear out extremely fast if they’re not greased on a regular basis.
How do I know if I have a worn king pin?
Inadequate lubrication of king pin bushings can cause king pin contact points to start to wear at the steering knuckle. You’ll notice signs of king pin and bushing failure from incorrect vehicle alignment, premature and uneven front tire wear, and rough handling. While driving you may experience a shaking cab or steering wheel. Due to the potential for further damage and safety risks, properly diagnosing and repairing worn king pins, bushings and tie rods needs to be addressed promptly.
Trailer King Pin Repair And Replacement
Checking the condition of your trailer king pin as part of a normal maintenance schedule is important to the safety of your entire rig as well as other drivers on the road. If your king pin is worn, the stability of your entire trailer is compromised. If the wear is significant, you may choose to replace the entire king pin piece. One of our certified mechanics can cut out the old king pin and remove it from your trailer. Then a new kingpin is installed and professionally welded to your trailer.
